Grade Calculator - Free Final Grade Calculator

Last updated: April 2026

The Grade Calculator helps students figure out their current grade and final grade by averaging assignment scores. It supports both simple averaging, where all assignments count equally, and weighted averaging, where different assignments carry different percentages of your total grade. Add as many assignments as you need, enter your scores, and instantly see your overall percentage and letter grade. This is perfect for students who want to know where they stand before finals, teachers who need a quick way to calculate student averages, and parents tracking their children's academic performance. The standard US letter grade scale (A+ through F) is used for conversion. No signup, no data collection, and completely free to use.

How to Use the Grade Calculator

  1. Step 1: Choose your averaging method

Select Simple Average if all assignments count equally toward your grade, or Weighted Average if different categories like homework, exams, and projects have different weights.

  2. Step 2: Enter your assignments

For each assignment, enter a name (optional), your score, the total points possible, and the weight percentage if using weighted mode. Click Add Assignment to include more rows.

  3. Step 3: Review your grade

Your final percentage and letter grade appear automatically as you enter scores. The calculation updates in real time every time you change a value.

  4. Step 4: Copy your results

Use the copy button next to the result to grab your grade percentage and letter grade for your records.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between simple and weighted grade calculation?

Simple averaging treats every assignment equally regardless of point value. If you scored 80, 90, and 100, your average is 90%. Weighted averaging assigns different importance to categories. If homework is worth 30% and exams are 70%, a 100% homework average and 80% exam average gives you 86% overall, not 90%. Most college courses use weighted grading.

What letter grade scale does this calculator use?

This calculator uses the standard US letter grade scale: A (93-100%), A- (90-92%), B+ (87-89%), B (83-86%), B- (80-82%), C+ (77-79%), C (73-76%), C- (70-72%), D+ (67-69%), D (63-66%), D- (60-62%), and F (below 60%). Some schools may use slightly different cutoffs.

Can I use this to figure out what I need on my final exam?

Yes. Enter all your current assignments with their scores and weights, then add a row for your final exam with the weight it carries. Try different scores for the final exam to see what overall grade each score would give you. This is a great way to figure out the minimum final exam score needed for your target grade.

How do weighted grades work when the weights do not add up to 100%?

If your weights do not total 100%, the calculator normalizes them proportionally. For example, if you only have categories totaling 60% entered so far (because the final exam has not happened), the calculator divides by the total weight entered to give you your current standing based on completed work.

Can I calculate grades for multiple classes?

This tool calculates one class at a time. To calculate grades for multiple classes, finish one class, copy the results, clear the fields, and start entering assignments for the next class. For overall GPA across classes, use our GPA Calculator tool instead.
